Promo Pathway

Customized college certificate that prepares you to write, edit and produce promos on television.

Promo Pathway

SBCC worked over several years in collaboration with Santa Monica College (SMC), PromaxBDA, and a collaborative of television network and agency executives to develop the Promo Pathway, provide support to the first cohorts of youth in the program, and help "hand off" the pathway as a standing certificate program at SMC. The Promo Pathway trains  low-income youth and adults for careers in entertainment technology as writers, editors and producers of promos on television. The program includes a one year, 30 unit Certificate of Completion that is aligned with an AA degree in Creative Services.  Students are matched with industry mentors and are supported to find internships that are college credit-bearing.

Funding support for the early development and pilot phases of the Promo Pathway was provided through the Everychild Youth Pathway Initiative. While we are proud of the creation of this first-of-its-kind certificate in a community college setting, SBCC no longer actively administers this program. Enrollment inquiries should be directed to Santa Monica College.
